Gamestown 2010

The Countdown to the 2010 Winter Games has begun.  GamesTown wants to hear what your BC community is doing to get in the spirit.  Tell us and the world how individuals and organizations in your community are making a difference in supporting sport, healthy living, sustainable development and of course, the Olympic Games Spirit.  Later this year, three BC communities will be picked as the gold, silver and bronze GamesTowns and will receive funds to put towards sports or healthy living facility improvements of their choosing.  Along the way, GamesTown will also be awarding many other great prizes. To upload stories, photos and YouTube video clips to your own BC Community Profile page on the Gamestown2010 website, showing us how your community engages the Olympic spirit and should be named GamesTown2010   For more, please see document below.

Community Achievers - Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine Rescue Team

Mayor and Council of the District of Logan Lake are pleased to recognize and congratulate the members of the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine Rescue Team.  The team received top honors in the Surface Competition of the 9th Western Regional Mine Rescue Competition held in Fernie, BC on September 12th.  This competition focuses on reacting quickly and effectively to various disasters which may occur in the surface mining industry.  We are very proud to have a team so dedicated to making Teck Highland Valley Copper a safer place for our Logan Lake and other area residents to work. 
Congratulations to Coach Gerry Wong, Captain Dirk Werring, Vice-Captain Dale Konowalchuk, Steve Hippisley, John Brennan, Peter Lapointe, Dave Potter and Sean Davies on your achievement.

Rescinding of Open Fire Prohibition

Effective Noon Monday, October 19, 2009, and until further notice, Category 1, 2 and 3 open fires are no longer prohibited and are permitted at all elevations throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.  Please see attached public notice for more information.

	Backyard Burning Guidelines

Burning Permits are required from the Fire Chief of the District of Logan Lake for land clearing and burning of yard debris within the municipality.

Residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to be vigilant in reducing the risk of fire within town, and in the back country.  Regardless of the lower risk in these specific areas, the public is urged to remain cautious with their use of campfires.

Breeding Bird Atlas - Volunteers Needed

The Breeding Bird Atlas Program is currently seeking volunteers to observe and report the status of all birds in a specified area over a five year period.  The minimum requirement is 20 hours over five years.  This information provides a history of changes around the province.  This will be of interest to those who are involved in birding and the outdoors. Dog Owners

In an effort to keep our public walkways and our community clean, we ask that all dog owners pick up any animal feces that your dog may leave behind during outings.  Logan Lake prides itself on being one of the cleanest communities in BC and for your convenience, we provide a dispenser with free disposal bags for your animal feces, at the entrance to the lake walking path.  Your efforts in this regard, are appreciated by all. Highland Valley Amateur Radio Group

This is a group of area Ham Radio Operators that meet every Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at TJs Bistro to discuss many items and plan for up coming Communication Events. The Group is the Core for Communications in the Logan Lake Search & Rescue Society and the Logan Lake Municipal Emergency Program. In the past, the Group has used their skills in Communicating for SAR, Triathlons, ATV Poker Runs, Snow Mobile Races and Annual Rainbow Endurance Races. Most of the Group are members of the Kamloops Amateur Radio Club, The Thompson River Amateur Radio Society, Radio Amateur Canada and the American Radio Relay League. Our Local Area repeater will be re-installed on South Forge Mountain in the summer of 2008.  Look for it - VE7LGN - 147.100+.  We also have an IRLP Node - #1958 in town on 146.58 Simplex, and an APRS Node on South Forge. The Group is available for handling Communications in Various Events.

District of Logan Lake Donation of Benches

The District of Logan Lake has in place a policy for the Donation of Benches.  This policy was established for individuals or organizations to donate a bench to the community.  Specifications and costs for the bench are available at the Municipal Office; please note that the total cost for the bench is the responsibility of the donator.  If you or an organization you belong to would like to donate a bench to the community in memory of someone of just as a donation, applications are available at the District Office.  Please make your inquiries to 523-6225 or email
