Municipal Hall
Welcome to the District of Logan Lake, your local municipal government. Logan Lake was incorporated as a Village in 1970 and then as a District municipality in 1983. The District of Logan Lake (District) is governed by an elected Council consisting of a Mayor and six Councillors. All members of Council are elected by local government elections held every three years, on the third Saturday in November. The next BC local government election is scheduled in 2011 and every third year following.
The role of your elected Council is to set strategic municipal goals, and accomplish these goals through the development of budgets, policies and bylaws that provide good governance, and high quality, efficient services to the community. Some of these important services include: water and sewer utilities; solid waste and recycling; streets and roads paving, traffic control, street lighting, sweeping, snow removal and ongoing road maintenance; fire service and prevention; land use planning, regulation and building inspection; parks and playgrounds; licensing; and bylaw enforcement.
To ensure that Councils’ strategic goals, budgets, policies and bylaws are effectively carried out Council, in accordance with the Community Charter, has established the position of Chief Administrative Officer (David Allen) to ensure the overall management and operation of the District. The District management team includes the positions of Deputy Corporate Administrator (Gwen Mason), Director of Finance (Colin Forsyth), Public Works Superintendent (Everett Sokoloski), Fire Chief / Emergency Coordinator (Dan Leighton), and Executive Assistant (Vida Hall).
Message from the Mayor
On behalf of our residents I extend a very warm welcome from the community of Logan Lake to everyone visiting our new District website. We encourage you to come to Logan Lake to "Discover our Nature" and enjoy the many wonderful all-season outdoor recreational opportunities!
Logan Lake is an affordable community with many of the amenities of a larger centre including high speed Internet service and cellular phone services. We have affordable property values and utility fees compared to larger urban centers, but are close enough to the larger communities of Kamloops and Merritt to make the work commute of 35 minutes to either community possible for many residents.
Logan Lake is centrally located in the Southern Interior of BC, and takes great pride in being the friendliest and cleanest community in the Province. Our 2,200 residents also take pride in the fact that they chose to live in Logan Lake, a community that has a natural environment that is renowned for its beauty and abundance of wildlife.
Logan Lake is a progressive, family-oriented community that provides a safe and secure environment. We have both a High School and an Elementary School in town, and for post secondary education Thompson Rivers University is located in Kamloops. Logan Lake has great tasting, safe water; a Recreation Centre, including an arena for hockey and curling; many neighbourhood parks; and sound municipal infrastructure, public roads, and utilities.
We have become a leading example of what a Fire Smart community can look like, by developing one of the first Community Wildfire Protection Plans in the Province. In addition to protecting the community from wildfire, these efforts have allowed the community to build an extensive trail network that is continually being improved upon.
Our residents also live in Logan Lake because they enjoy our diverse recreational opportunities that include cross country skiing, snowmobiling, curling, hockey, fishing and ice fishing, golfing, hiking, ATV riding, and biking. Recently the community has added the 18-hole Copper Ridge Disc Golf Course, and a new 'state-of-the-art' Bike Skills Park for our youth.
Our many community events attract visitors from all over the country. A few Winter events include the Polar Carnival, Western Cup of Pond Hockey Tournament, Logan Lake Loop Speed Skating event, and our unique winter "Polarathon" triathlon. Summer events include Canada Day celebrations, Logan Lake Days, the Lions Lobsterfest, Highland Valley Copper Open House, Little Britches Rodeo, ATV BC and many, many more.
So if you are here for a visit, staying at our Municipal Campground on the lake, attending an event, or looking for your next home, I extend a personal invitation to you to contact our Municipal Office at 250-523-6225 and I would be pleased to take you on a tour of our friendly community.
